Here we have a beautiful pair of Whitby Jet stud earrings with 5mm or 6mm black jet inserts hand cut and polished to that famous deep black shine which are then flush mounted in Sterling Silver studs. All of our jet is found by ourselves on yearly family holidays to Whitby and Scarborough!
What is Whitby Jet?
A popular Yorkshire coastal town, Whitby is famous for its stunning scenery, fish and chips and of course Jet! Some 180 million years old, the gemstone Whitby jet is actually fossilised wood of the Araucaria tree perhaps more recently known as the Monkey Puzzle tree! Whitby jet is famed for is deep and intense black colour and the lustrous shine that can be achieved by polishing it. It is also very light in weight making it perfect for jewellery!
